Summary:
The goal of this workshop organized by Parastoo Azadi from the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center is to discuss advanced analytical tools for the isolation, purification, and structural characterization of complex cell wall polysaccharides. Emphasis will be placed on high-resolution mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS, GC-MS LC–MS/MS) , HPAEC, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), which together enable detailed analysis of glycan composition, sequence, linkage, and conformation. The workshop will highlight integrated approaches that combine complementary techniques to address challenges arising from structural heterogeneity, branching, isomerism, and non-carbohydrate modifications such as acetylation, enabling more accurate and comprehensive characterization of complex polysaccharide mixtures.
